This deck is meant to be played in the "vigilant palantir" fellowship. The attachments in this fellowship have a specific distribution, so you should ignore the "attachment" section if you are not seeing the whole fellowship.
Balin's compagnons
This deck is designed to do 6 things: Fetch Gather Information, hold Narya on Círdan the Shipwright, quest for very high amounts, cancel shadows, play guarded attachments and give additionnal resources to heroes.
fetching Gather Information on setup with Thurindir and using Narya plays an important part in the fellowship, where it is explained.
Power Questing
This deck is meant to quest for high amounts from start to end of the game, securing a completed Gather Information on the first round.
For that purpose, we are using Power of Command as well as Merry, Faramir and Fellowship, each capable of giving a +1 to all of our characters.
to exploit this advantage from turn 1, we are playing all of the lowest cost unique allies, including Galion, Henamarth Riversong, Ioreth and Wilyador, which all quest for 1 or 2 thanks to the activation of Power of Command.
Later on, flipping Fellowship (which this deck accomplishes easily thanks to all the cheap allies and Círdan the Shipwright's ability helping us filter for the ones we need) and using Faramir's ability nets us a +3 on all unique characters, which lets us quest in the 40 range.
shadow managment
with a Vigilant Dúnadan defending dozens of attacks, we are vulnerable to shadow effects. Balin's ability lets us cancel those shadow effects when needed, as long as we keep resources available on Balin. For that purpose, once Cirdan has Narya, Balin's resources should not be spent until he has a healthy fodder to spend on shadows as needed.
Depending on the quest, a resource generation card can be placed on him to keep us safe from shadows (Magic Ring/Necklace of Girion for an average amount of dangerous shadows, Steward of Gondor for a shadow-heavy quest).
guarded attachments
with a panoply of 5 guarded attachments and 3 copies of The King's Return, we can decide to play a guarded attachment whenever we want (and often can choose this attachment to be Stone of Elostirion which is location guarded). Combined with Palantir's scrying ability, this lets us get rid of threacheries or cumbersome ennemies by discarding them to the guarded trigger.
resource generation
Halfast Gamgee, Steward of Gondor, Legacy of Númenor (which we can afford to play thanks to the hobbits and our ability to engage enemies without worry) and We Are Not Idle (exhausting Balin) all let us distribute extra resource accross the table to smooth out the planning phase.
