AKA the Protectors of Lorien
I wanted to build a deck around the Protector of Lórien using Revised Content Only (RCO). Why? This card provides so much optionality by giving you ways to boost or at will. Too much threat in the staging area? Discard some cards! Need just a few more points of progress to clear that tricky location? Discard a few more cards! An enemy has too much ? Discard MORE cards! A shadow card adds some surprise ? DISCARD MORE CARDS*! You are invincible!!
*Legal notice: Up to 3 cards per phase per Protector card.
But Protector of Lórien is a hungry, HUNGRY card that demands constant fuel. Luckily the RCO pool provides some excellent card draw mechanics to meet its insatiable appetite. Beravor + Unexpected Courage is the primary engine here, supplemented by Gléowine, Elven-light, and Daeron's Runes. Beravor and Gléowine alone will result in 4 cards drawn per turn. Once you get access to a copy of Elven-light you can cycle 5 cards per turn. It won't take long to exhaust your deck this way, so two copies of Will of the West are recommended, especially for longer quests when you might go through the deck two or three times. Especially with the occasional Daeron's Runes, where you can burn through 7 cards in a single turn.
You can find these cards in the Core Set, Elves of Lorien starter deck, Fellowship of the Ring, and Angmar Awakens set expansions.
HOW TO USE THIS DECK:
- Setup: Mulligan for Unexpected Courage and/or Elven-light. Play Unexpected Courage on Beravor and start your engine!
- Attachments: Your first Protector of Lórien should go on Beravor, who is your primary defender. The second should go on Arwen Undómiel as a backup defender, or to augment questing. Same order for Unexpected Courage. I generally play Silver Harp on Éowyn. Lembas should go on your defenders, or whoever is low on health.
- Questing: Éowyn and Arwen Undómiel are your primary questers, supplemented by allies as needed. On their own, they will quest for 7+ and more when using Éowyn's ability or Protector of Lórien.
- Allies: Gléowine is typically used for card draw. Silvan Refugee is for questing or chump blocking. Northern Tracker for location control, but often I use them for attacking or defending low-level mobs. Since you have a Dúnedain, you can use Ranger of Cardolan from your hand for emergencies, or when you're heavy in any resource pool. Beorn and Boromir might be curious additions, but this deck lacks in firepower. So use Elf-stone to cheat them out of your hand. Gandalf needs no introduction and Henamarth Riversong will let you know whether to save that resource for A Test of Will or if it's safe to send Beravor on the quest.
- Sideboard: Although I've listed out 50 cards as the "official" list, I often play with 60 because of the speed at which you go through the deck. It gives you more options to discard when needed.
This deck is pretty easy to pilot, with the most difficult decision being how you're going to hold all the cards in your hand! You can play it solo on many quests, although you may struggle with combat-oriented quests. It really shines in multiplayer, where it can play more of a questing/supporting role. Good luck and have fun!

Apr 14, 2023Fun looking deck! How about including Steed of Imladris? WIth lots of card draw it'll be more efficient than Protector of Lorien at boosting your progress, but you could use both :). Silvan Refugee looks tough to play with Gandalf & Ranger of Cardolan leaving play. I might suggest subbing these for 3x Galadriel's Handmaiden, and maybe also mix in 1 or 2 West Road Traveller for some location control since that seems to be this deck's biggest strength. Including 1x Wingfoot would be great as well since you have Henamarth Riversong to peek at the encounter deck, it basically becomes a 2 willpower for 1 cost card. |

Currently Elf-stone is the only way you're getting those big Tactics allies in. Stand and Fight could see some use, especially considering how much will be in the discard. Fun looking deck.
