Notes:

• Mulligan for Resourceful (on Frodo) or Fast Hitch (on Merry).
• In the first turns, we should questing hard with the 3 hobbits.
  • Save the 1st resource to use Frodo's ability to ready Merry.
  • Then, if we quest successfully or an enemy is revealed, we are going to stay in secrecy for another round.
• Frodo will be our main defender once he gets the Fast Hitch.
  • Much better if Bill, Rosie, or the Cloak are also in play.
  • With all of them (and the master pick), he will be a 7 / 3 (plus shadow cancellation) defender.
• Merry + Thorongil ( Merry) is specially wonderful when enemies are not revealed from the encounter deck (and his response becomes useless).
  • Instead of a mediocre hero, we will have a 4 hero (the 1 of the spirit version still counts) ready for combat phase... and then we will also have his response.
• Rosie Cotton provides more versatility than the Hobbit Cloak and her boost is unaffected by engagement costs.
  • Exhaust Rosie after staging step to boost Frodo/Merry/Pippin's .
  • Exhaust Rosie after shadow cards are revealed to boost Frodo's .
  • Exhaust Rosie on Merry and he will swing for 6 .
  • She's the perfect target for the 3rd Fast Hitch.
• Ents are the hobbits' personal guard.
  • Don't forget Treebeard's readying ability!
  • If a 3 enemy shows up, don't be afraid to defend with a 2 ent.
  • The amount of power a couple of angry Booming Ents can achieve, is a game-ender in almost every circumstance.
  • Booming Ents can be played via Treebeard, Merry, or some Aid.
• The Red Book of Westmarch is a great card to see when enemies and locations start to pile up in the staging area.
  • It also gets back the resources spent by Frodo's ability.
• If you can delay The Shirefolk until finding a Pipe (or Bilbo Baggins), you will have some free card draw in addition to the threat reduction.

Sideboard:

• Odo Proudfoot is useful to find Rosie if she hasn't shown up yet.
  • In any case, having another ally with the ability to thin out our deck a bit more, is always welcome.
• Entmoot is good for any ent... its main target is pretty obvious, though.
  • Not finding Treebeard in the early game could be an issue, and Entmoot is a good way to mitigate that.
