Premise
I wanted an Outlands deck which runs Prince Imrahil and Prince of Dol Amroth as successfully as possible and that is what I came up with. Quite decent I think (Outlands are almost too powerfull to really mess them up) but of course well behind in terms of power compared to the optimized versions. Your Messenger of the King is Halfast Gamgee.
How To Play
Your key tools of swarming here are Steward of Gondor, Lord of Morthond, A Very Good Tale/Tome of Atanatar and Legacy of Númenor. Look for an opening hand with as many of them as possible (in the case of A Very Good Tale, 2 starting allies are needed as well of course).
Halfast provides you with an extra resource on Hirluin the Fair from the get-go, which can be used to get out a Hunter of Lamedon or even better an Ethir Swordsman without any further acceleration. Ethir Swordsman is (as with any Outlands deck) your most important ally which you want to see as early as possible. If your draw ever stagnates, Pillars of the Kings can be your get-out-of-jail card in that regard.
Considerations
In high player counts, cards like Campfire Tales, Man the Walls or Strength of Arms obviously become a lot more useful. You can also go fully "trivialize the game" mode with playing and recycling Doom Hangs Still after playing PIllars, however I find that rarely appealing (although undeniably extremely powerful). Wilyador is always useful if you want him.
Enjoy!!!

Jun 18, 2025Ohh for sure ... round 1 is the most important round in the game, getting that one extra resource cannot be overstated in terms of tempo! Plus, 5 threat for 2 WP/2 HP (and in many decks providing access to a fully powered Drinking Song) is a great deal as well. |
Jun 18, 2025specially in this case where u can put it on Hirluin the Fair so even if not having Steward of Gondor in your startinghand, you can pay for a 2-cost-not leadership-outland 1. round (and have extradraw if Lord of Morthond is out, not having either in your startinghand would be very bad luck) so the extrares might resolve in extra-ally + extracard, that can snowball. |
Halfast Gamgee is often your choice for Messenger of the King. In your experience, does its 1 more starting resource make a real difference ?
